All major wisdom traditions converge on pride as the primary spiritual problem. The convergence itself is evidence of something real:
- Bible/Isaiah: God looks to the humble, contrite heart
- Quran: God loves not the arrogant boaster
- Bhagavad-Gita: Master the ego, be humble and harmless
- Judaism/Mishna: Be exceedingly humble — man’s end is worm
- NT/Philippians: Count others better than yourself
- Confucius: Only worry = failing to recognize others’ merits
Origin (Unificationist lens): Lucifer’s beauty made him proud. Pride corrupted wisdom. Corrupted wisdom refused to serve Adam. Pride became desire to be above God. The chip-on-shoulder feeling — ancient, primordial, and it sank him.
Moses as pattern: 40 years palace → killed Egyptian, fled → 40 years humble shepherd → then God used him to free Israel. Humble Moses > palace Moses. The preparation was the humbling.
Jesus as inversion: Born in lowest place, died most humiliating death. Still shining millennia later. Humility is power with a very long time horizon.
Almost everything stuck in life traces to hidden pride. Not visible arrogance — hidden pride. The subtle form is harder to see and more dangerous.
