In Unification theology, True Parents refers jointly to Rev. Sun Myung Moon (True Father) and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon (True Mother). Together they fulfill the role that Jesus and a future bride were intended to fulfill: establishing the first family fully aligned with God’s love, thereby beginning the restoration of all humanity’s spiritual lineage.

The concept is central to why the Holy Blessing holds such theological weight in Unification thought — it is the mechanism by which individuals and families are connected to the lineage True Parents established. When the Blessing becomes ritual without substance, it loses that connection.

True Parents Day is one of the major Unification Holy Days, celebrating the establishment of True Parents and their mission.

In CSG Book 2 Ch1, Moon articulates two specific things the words “True Parents” signify:

“The words True Parents in relation to God’s will signify first, that all people, including our first ancestors, will be cut off from the false lineage. Second, they signify that a love, life, and lineage connected with God and the new original root will begin.” (CSG 201-60, 1990.3.1)

The symbolism runs deep in the Hebrew Scriptures as well: the two tablets of stone Moses received symbolized Adam and Eve — the central figures of God’s will — placed in the Ark of the Covenant. The pillar of fire (man) and pillar of cloud (woman) that guided Israel pointed forward to True Parents in the Last Days. (134-172, 1985.4.7)
