“God’s purpose in creating human beings was love. God created men and women so that they could love each other and become one… God’s purpose in creating human beings was to make the foundation of love through families. This is because without love, the world of creation would be hell and God’s existence would have no meaning.” (CSG, Blessed Family - 307)

The four-position foundation (God → Adam → Eve → children) is not a diagram — it is the complete structure of love’s expression in the world. When this foundation is completed, God’s ideal of creation is realized. When it is absent or distorted, God’s ideal remains unrealized.

This is why:

  • Marriage is not a social contract but a cosmic act
  • Children are not a personal choice but participation in God’s purpose
  • Family problems are not just relational struggles but providential obstacles
  • The Blessing is not a ceremony but the entry point into completing what God’s creation was for

“God created heaven and earth for the sake of the ideal realm of love, where such men and women form a completely horizontal line and become connected to God at a perfect ninety-degree angle.” (CSG 213-157)

The 90-degree angle is precise: vertical (God-human parent-child) meets horizontal (husband-wife love) at one perfect point. That point is the family. Without the family, neither the vertical nor the horizontal can be complete.

The stakes

If the family is the fulfillment of creation’s purpose, then the destruction of family is not just a social problem — it is the direct reversal of God’s intent. This is why the Fall, which destroyed the original family, was the most consequential event in human history. And why restoration of family is the heart of God’s providential work.
