Good Inside argues that children fear confusion and aloneness more than hard information. Honest naming, delivered with calm presence, gives a child something solid to stand on.
Avoidance often means adults are trying to protect themselves from the feelings the truth will evoke. But children still detect the change in the room and then must carry the uncertainty alone.
This is a powerful pastoral principle as well. Truth without care wounds, but care without truth leaves people disoriented.
