If I did not author my own beginning, then I cannot honestly pretend that I can generate my own final purpose from scratch. A received life requires a received direction.
That is why Book 6 keeps circling questions of origin and destination. A compass matters only when you are already moving. Human beings are already moving through time toward a destination whether they have named it or not.
This pushes against modern self-authorship without erasing freedom. Freedom still matters, but it matters inside a world that was already given before it was interpreted.
