In Unification theology, God’s dual characteristics (masculine/feminine, subject/object) are imprinted on all creation as the pair system. True Father extends this to the physical geography of nations. Land symbolizes the masculine (heaven); water/ocean symbolizes the feminine (earth). Therefore:
- Peninsulas — land protruding into the sea — are masculine/Adam in their geographic form. They extend outward, they penetrate the feminine sea, they connect to the continent.
- Islands — surrounded by sea on all sides — are feminine/Eve in their geographic form. They are enclosed, they long for the mainland, they receive from the surrounding ocean.
This is why Korea (a peninsula) is the Adam nation and Japan (an island nation) is the Eve nation. The geographic assignment is not arbitrary; it is the literal application of the pair system to national landforms.
The same logic is applied historically: the Mediterranean Sea surrounding the Italian peninsula was the “feminine sea receiving the masculine Italian peninsula” — this is why the Italian/Roman civilization was such a powerful creative force. In the Pacific era, the Sea of Japan and the Pacific receive the Korean peninsula, and the providential fruition occurs at that interface.
“If the Korean peninsula symbolizes the male sexual organ, then Japan symbolizes the female sexual organ. These two must become one.” (CSG 251-147, 1993.10.17)
This teaching is striking in its directness. True Father does not shy away from using the language of sexual anatomy to describe the cosmic-geographic principle. The reunion of Adam and Eve at the level of nations is the same event as the reunion of masculine and feminine at the cosmic level.
