The Fall did not merely produce sin in human hearts. It created a structural arrangement that placed Satan in a position of power between God and humanity — the midway position.
“God is therefore above, humankind is below, and Satan holds the middle ground. This is how satanic walls have emerged.” (CSG 118-270, 1982.6.13)
Indirect versus direct dominion:
Divine Principle distinguishes two domains:
- Indirect dominion (dominion based on accomplishments through the Principle): The period during which humans must grow and fulfill their portion of responsibility before God can relate to them directly. God guides through Principle, not direct intervention.
- Direct dominion: The intended mature relationship in which God and humanity are in immediate union — parents and children, not law and subject.
Satan occupied the indirect dominion domain at the moment of the Fall, before humans had completed their growth and crossed into direct dominion. This means he has had legal standing to resist God’s direct action ever since: he is squatting in the space humanity was supposed to pass through on their way to God.
The purpose of religion:
“Then how do we break through these walls and advance to where God is? This is the purpose of religion.” (CSG 118-270)
Religion, in this framework, is not primarily about meaning, community, or ethics — it is about breaching the walls Satan has erected in the midway position. Every religious tradition that has genuinely moved people toward God has been pushing against those walls, layer by layer.
The specific walls to be torn down:
“I have been doing the work of destroying Satan’s walls wherever they are found: in individuals, families, tribes, peoples, nations and the world and even the spirit world.” (CSG 118-270)
This is True Parents’ mission stated in structural terms: not to teach enlightenment or model virtue (though both occur), but to systematically demolish the barriers that keep indirect and direct dominion disconnected at every level of human organization.
Why indemnity is required:
The course of indemnification exists because this is “humankind’s portion of responsibility, which, so far, it has failed to carry out.” Satan expects God to play by the rules — and he is right to. The walls can only be legitimately torn down by people who fulfill their portion of responsibility without giving Satan grounds to accuse. Brute spiritual force cannot do it; only conditions established through love and principled action dismantle what principled failure erected.
The Holy Wedding as breakthrough:
“This restoration occurred for the first time in history at True Parents’ Holy Wedding in 1960. Since Jesus was unable to reverse the fall of Adam and Eve, I must do everything on his behalf.” (CSG 118-270)
The 1960 Holy Wedding is not merely a personal milestone — it is the first successful breach of the wall at the family level on behalf of all humanity. A family centered on God’s love, established in the physical world for the first time, began clearing what had been blocked for six thousand years.
