Chapter 5 makes a demanding claim about eternal life: the next world does not cancel the character formed in this one. It extends it. A person who has not developed mature true love on earth will not move freely in the spirit world simply because the body has been shed.
That pushes against escapist religion. Eternity is not a reset button. It is continuity under different conditions. The person’s field of action becomes wider, but the capacity to participate in that field has to be built now.
This makes earthly life feel more like apprenticeship than exam. The question is not merely whether one passes or fails, but what kind of being one has become able to be.
