“We absolutely need True Parents for three reasons – to complete restoration through indemnity, to become one in true love, and to receive rebirth based on the change of lineage.” (CSG 137-113, 1985.12.24)
The sentence is compact. Each phrase is a category, not a detail. Together they form a diagnosis of the human condition and the only available remedy.
Reason 1 — Complete restoration through indemnity:
The Fall created a debt — specific, principled conditions were violated, and restoration requires conditions that satisfy the same principled framework. This is not punishment; it is the logic of the universe Moon calls the Principle. True Parents are needed at the center of the indemnity process because:
- The Fall happened through the first parents; it must be resolved through restored parents
- The conditions required cannot be established by individuals alone — they require a foundation that spans individual, family, tribal, national, and world levels
- Without True Parents as the center, the conditions remain incomplete regardless of personal sincerity or effort
This is why historical religious practice — despite genuine devotion — could not complete restoration. The structural center (True Parents) was absent.
Reason 2 — Become one in true love:
True love is not a feeling or an aspiration — it is a specific state with a specific source. The Fall produced false love: possessive, self-centered, conditional, and mortal. True love — the kind that grows as it is given, that is eternal, that reflects God’s original investment in creation — does not arise spontaneously from fallen human nature.
To become one in true love requires True Parents as the model and the source. You cannot become one in a standard you have never seen embodied. True Parents’ actual love — the love Moon describes as the reason for building organizations while in prison, for absorbing persecution on behalf of members, for never abandoning those who blamed him for their own mistakes — is the demonstrable standard that makes the instruction “love truly” something other than an aspiration.
Reason 3 — Receive rebirth through the change of lineage:
The most structurally distinctive of the three. The Fall altered the human bloodline — the root. Forgiveness of sins does not change lineage. Religious sincerity does not change lineage. Even genuine sanctification within existing traditions cannot change the genealogical root. A new root requires a new planting.
True Parents carry the original lineage — the lineage that runs from before the Fall, restored through the indemnity course. Engrafting to this lineage (through the Blessing ceremony) changes the root from which a person’s love, life, and lineage flows. Without this, the satanic lineage continues to transmit across generations regardless of personal virtue.
Why this note exists alongside “three messianic purposes”
The three messianic purposes (messiah-has-three-purposes) describe the mission from God’s perspective:
- Restore true parenthood
- Give second birth / change lineage
- Qualify people to subjugate Satan
This note is the same structure from the human side — not what the Messiah came to do, but what we cannot accomplish without him. The problems are named from our experience of lack:
- We cannot complete indemnity alone → we need True Parents at the center
- We do not know how to love truly → we need a model and source
- We cannot change our own lineage → we need the engrafting point
Same three-part structure. Different vantage point. Both are needed for full understanding.
